Russia launches missile attacks on Western Ukraine

Moscow – Russia has launched missile attacks on the western region of Ukraine. The missile strikes were conducted on Lviv and Volyn in West Ukraine on Tuesday morning, in which three people are reported to have died. Besides, Lviv, a city in Ukraine, is only 70 km from Poland’s border. Therefore, the Russian missile attacks there become a concern for Poland for helping Ukraine against Russia. Russia is said to be behind these attacks in a plan to cut off aid to Ukraine.

Moreover, Russia had made a strong lead in the Ukraine conflict, which started in the last 18 months. The region of eastern Ukraine was previously Russia’s main target. Nevertheless, now Russia has launched attacks on the western part of Ukraine. Missiles hit on Lviv and Volyn cities are the beginning of Russia’s new strategy. The attacks caused significant damage to buildings in Lviv, and three people were claimed killed by local agencies. This region of western Ukraine was still safe from Russian aggression. However, now it seems that the western part of Ukraine will have to suffer the dire consequences of the conflict with Russia.

Western Ukraine shares a border with Poland. Western countries supply essential military goods and other things to Ukraine through this border. In addition, Poland has also provided a large amount of military assistance to Ukraine. Russia had also warned Poland off and on against this. NATO member Poland had decided to give aid to Ukraine regardless of Russia’s warning. However, Russia has strategically decided to increase military pressure on Poland in the last few weeks.

Furthermore, thousands of Russian private mercenary Wagner Group troops have been deployed in Poland’s neighbouring Belarus, making Poland insecure. Poland has also started deploying a large army on the Belarusian border. Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian cities near the Polish border also raise Poland’s concerns. Thus, weapons and defence goods reaching Ukraine from Poland can become targets of Russian aggression in future. There are also indications that the situation of the Ukrainian army will deteriorate further after the supply chain is disrupted due to the Russian invasion.

Meanwhile, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu reprimanded the Ukrainian military, saying it was losing its strength despite Western aid. Defence Minister Shoigu has also questioned the status of Western weapons. Moreover, Shoigu has claimed that Russian weapons are more effective than the weapons given to Ukraine by the West in this conflict. Simultaneously, Shoigu warned that Russia would not hesitate to attack with cluster bombs if Ukraine uses them in the future.

Moreover, Russia had decided not to use cluster bombs in this conflict until now. However, Defence Minister Shoigu has warned that it could be reconsidered.
