Moscow/Kyiv – Russia launched missile attacks on the capital, Kyiv, amid Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the US. At least ten ballistic missiles were fired at the capital, Kyiv, on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Information regarding a huge loss of life and property has come to light, and President Zelensky has warned that Russia will get retaliation. Meanwhile, Russia has criticised Ukraine’s new US defence aid as a fraud.

Moreover, Russia has launched a winter offensive against Ukraine, and drone and missile attacks are being launched every day. Besides, the Russian defence forces have intensified their attacks against Ukraine and have started targeting the capital, Kyiv. On Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, Russia launched ballistic missile attacks on the capital, Kyiv. This is the third major attack on Kyiv in the last seven days.

Furthermore, Russia used the S-400 and Iskander-M missiles in the attack on Kyiv. The attack caused heavy damage to buildings, houses and infrastructure facilities in the capital, Kyiv. Photos of fires in various parts of the city have also been public. Additionally, the Ukrainian agencies informed that the Russian attack injured more than 50. It has also claimed that it shot down most of the missiles fired by Russia.

Nonetheless, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of retaliation to the Russian attacks. Zelensky, who has been visiting the US since Monday, met with US President Joe Biden, House Speaker Mike Johnson and leaders of both political parties, including Chuck Schumer and Pepper McConnell. US lawmakers asked Zelensky questions about using funds and policy during this time. However, the media has claimed that Zelensky could not answer this satisfactorily.

Nonetheless, the US has provided more than $100 billion in defence and economic assistance to Ukraine to date. Ukraine has asked for an additional $61 billion to continue the conflict. The US has strongly opposed this supplemental provision, and the Republican Party has adopted an aggressive stance. The Republican Party warned that in addition to providing aid to Ukraine, Israel and the United States need to make provisions for border security.

Meanwhile, White House and Defense Department officials have claimed that the US does not have the funds and weapons available to provide such a large amount of defence assistance. Also, the US officials have demanded that Ukraine should not have undue expectations from the United States and change the policy of the Russian campaign. The media reported that despite the US administration’s will, the ability to provide further defence aid to Ukraine without the approval of the US Congress has been exhausted. Against this background, the US State Department indicated that the $200 million defence aid announced by Biden could be the last aid to Ukraine.
