Sanaa – Houthi rebels launched a new attack on the Red Sea just hours after warnings from the US and allies. The US official shared information that a drone boat filled with explosives was detonated at this time by taking it close to the US Navy and merchant ship. The US Navy has also shared information that the Houthi rebels have carried out 25 attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The former Houthi spokesman had recently warned that the pro-Iran Houthi rebels based in Yemen are a threat to the whole world.

Supporting Hamas, the pro-Iranian Houthi rebels threatened to target the countries helping Israel after the Israel-Hamas war began. After this, in November, the Houthi rebels started attacking merchant ships travelling from the Red Sea. The attacks have caused heavy damage to the traffic of merchant ships in the Red Sea and triggered a surge in the prices of many products, including fuel. The Houthi rebels, who initially targeted only merchant ships, had also tried to attack the Israeli city of Eilat.

Given the damage to global trade due to Houthi rebels, the US formed an Operation Prosperity Guardian task force with its allies. It comprises ten countries, including the US and nine warships deployed along with aircraft carriers in the Red Sea and close areas. Among them are destroyers from the United Kingdom and France. However, despite this deployment, the Houthi rebels continued to attack with helicopters, drones and ships.

The United States and its allies had given a stern warning against the surge in Houthi attacks. It was also warned that if the ongoing attacks on merchant ships were not stopped, the Houthi rebels would be responsible for further consequences. Hours after Wednesday’s warning, the Houthi rebels launched a new attack, which reflected that it made no difference to them despite receiving the warning issued by the launch of the Operation Prosperity Guardian campaign. Therefore, it is understood that the United States and its allies will have to take more aggressive and comprehensive action against the Houthis in the coming days.

Senior naval officer Vice Admiral Brad Cooper has provided information that the Houthi rebels have carried out 25 attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden so far. Iran is being accused of giving aid to the Houthi rebels; but Iran and the rebel organisation have rejected this claim.
