Norfolk/Tehran – The US has called back the aircraft carrier, USS Gerald Ford, which was deployed in the Mediterranean Sea for two and a half months for the security of Israel. Also, an amphibious warship will now be deployed in place of this warship for patrolling in the Red Sea. Iran’s Alborz destroyer arrived in the Red Sea just a few hours after the US announced the return of USS Gerald Ford. Iran has deployed this destroyer in the Red Sea after the US and the UK rejected their cooperation proposal. Besides, attacks by Yemeni Houthi rebels on foreign ships, including those of Israel, are increasing. At the same time, the withdrawal of the US aircraft carrier from the Red Sea and the deployment of an Iranian destroyer drew much attention.

Moreover, the US deployed two aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean Sea after the Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on October 7. These included the USS Gerald Ford and USS Dwight Eisenhower. The United States had announced this deployment to prevent Hezbollah terrorists from Lebanon from opening a new front by attacking Israel. The USS Gerald Ford was deployed in the Mediterranean Sea for two and a half months. However, the US ordered this aircraft carrier warship to return on Monday. After this, the US Navy clarified that the USS Gerald Ford would soon return to be deployed in the Mediterranean Sea. The US Navy also announced that till then, the helicopter carrier USS Bataan would remain stationed in the Mediterranean Sea.

The USS Bataan, accompanying the auxiliary destroyers USS Carter Hall and USS Mesa Verde, has also been deployed in the Red Sea for the past few days. Nonetheless, these warships played an important role in preventing the attacks of Yemen’s Houthi rebels on the merchant ships passing through the Red Sea, including those bound to Israel. The USS Bataan helicopter destroyed three boats of Houthi rebels last week. Ten rebels were also killed in the action. It was discussed that after the success of the USS Bataan, the attacks by the Yemeni rebels in the Red Sea would subside.

A few hours after this decision of the US Biden administration, Iran’s destroyer Alborz crossed the Strait of Bab-el-Mandeb and entered the Red Sea. For the last few months, it has been alleged that foreign merchant ships were attacked due to Iran’s spy ship in this maritime area. Meanwhile, tensions have increased in the Red Sea due to Iranian destroyers entering this area. The United States and the United Kingdom had also appealed to Iran, which influences the Houthi rebels in Yemen, to cooperate in stopping the attacks on merchant ships. However, Iran rejected it. Later, reports of discussions between the leaders of Iran and the Houthi rebels came to light. Within the next few hours, tensions in the Red Sea have increased due to Iran’s destroyer entering the sea area close to Yemen.

Most importantly, the USS Gerald Ford’s return and the Iranian warship Alborz’s deployment are happening simultaneously. By drawing attention to this, some people claim that the US has withdrawn before Iran in this region. Many analysts note that this incident has once again clarified that the United States has been weakening under President Biden.
